ANGLEC Kite Flying General Safety Notice & Tips

Kite Flying General Safety Notice:

The Anguilla Electricity Company Ltd. ANGLEC encourages the public to be vigilant in the practice of kite flying. Kites pose a serious risk of harm and in some cases electrocution to the flyer, those in close proximity, as well as posing a major risk of damage to ANGLEC’s infrastructure.  Kites can cause major outages on ANGLEC’s system in addition to the hazard they present to users. On Monday April 13th, 2020 a kite flown into High Voltage power lines caused a full feeder outage. While thankfully no one was harmed the practice of kite flying must be done under the following guidelines for the safety of all:

  • Under no circumstances should a kite be flown within 15 meters (50 ft) of power lines,
  • Never use metallic or metal based line for your kite,
  • Children flying kites must be supervised and assisted at all times,
  • Never fasten or tie yourself or your child to the line of a kite,
  • Limit the length of your kite to ensure control at all times,
  • If a kite should become entangled with a power line, please contact ANGLEC by calling our Trouble call number (497-2891) immediately and notify any other relevant authorities.
