WOMEN’S MONTH AT ANGLEC – EMPOWERING EQUITY HONOUREE
SHAMISHA WEBSTER

As part of the 2024 Women’s Month activities at ANGLEC, the Office of Public Relations selected a distinguished group of women to be featured for their character, contributions to the company and their unsolicited commitment to supporting equity for women within the workplace and the community.

Shamisha Webster is ANGLEC’s newest female employee who recently joined the company in the position of Cashier. As the newest, it is natural for questions arise as to what would qualify her for such a nomination already which is exactly why she was selected to be honoured under this year’s theme #InspireInclusion. Newness, youth or lack of history with a company should never be barriers for exclusion or discrimination and we at ANGLEC are elated at the chance to put the theme set out by the International Women’s Day movement to work.

This honouree nomination series, will recognize Shamisha and other women who highlight inclusion at ANGLEC because when we inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion, we forge a better world. And when women themselves are inspired to be included, there’s a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment. Collectively, let’s forge a more inclusive world for women. Young women all over Anguilla and the WORLD deserve a chance to innovate, create and be GREAT just like Shamisha is striving to be!

So let’s get to know her! In the below interview we learn more about the woman behind the work, her take on equity for women and her view on inspiring the next generation.

b) What is your fav hobby ?
●Playing Netball
●My mother is my role model; she encourages and motivates me to flourish without limitations. Despite the struggles my mother faced, she never let any thing get in the way of the immense love she had for me. She fought her battles in silence, without a hint of complaint or fuss, always prioritising my needs above her own. She selflessly sacrificed her own aspirations and ambitions to guarantee that I had the most promising beginning in my life and she did it all with a smile that radiated warmth and tenderness.

●Having to maintain a positive demeanor with customers that has a very negative attitude towards me, while trying to assist them in the best way possible.

“Inspire Inclusion” 2024 Theme

a) What is your view on the theme?
●In my opinion, “Insipre Inconlusion” encourages us to focus on those around us, whether professionally or personally, and  think about how we can all work together.

b) In your opinion, how can men and women work together on inclusion?
●Create partnerships between men and women by developing a common understanding of various points of view on the problems under consideration and offering instances of shared cultural experience.

c) How are you able to inspire inclusion at ANGLEC as a 2024 honouree?

●I often make an effort to create workplaces in which everyone feels heard and respected.

“Inspiring Others to Embrace Equity”

a) What advice would you give to young women about being included and including others in the workplace?

●Speak up about inclusion! Following on having been who you really are, always speak up in an appropriate manner, ensuring that your decision is consistent with your values and beliefs. Do not feel hesitant to be the only voice in the room. Managers value employees who are willing to take on the responsibility to teach others.
b) How can someone advocate for an equitable inclusion in a work environment?
●The most basic strategies to encourage inclusion, equity, and diversity in the workplace is to respect all employees, listen to their ideas, value their contributions, and give them a fair chance for growth and promotion.
c)What role does leadership have in promoting inclusion in the workplace?
●Leaders have a vital role in promoting workplace diversity and inclusion. Combining other points of view into decision-making, developing diverse teams, and actively recognizing and acknowledging the differences that employees bring to the table are all great ways for achieving this.
